KARATE

Karate is our weaponless program, based on Okinawan Shorin Ryu, a practical time tested approach to combat and self defense.  It is also a form of physical and mental fitness that promotes a healthy way of life.

Our comprehensive approach covers both striking and grappling and is characterized by its efficiency and continuous fluid motion, emphasizing natural movement, simultaneous blocks and strikes, leverage, seamless transitions and rapid successive application, providing a practical, intuitive approach to self-defense.

Training is structured into three categories, consisting of Kihon for learning techniques, Kata for bridging techniques through pre-arranged forms and Kumite for self defense application through controlled sparring.  Application draws on balance, coordination, speed, power, distance, timing and relaxation, utilizing a powerful mix of dynamic strikes, joint manipulation, throws and ground work.

KOBUDO

Kobudo is our weapons program, based on Matayoshi Ryu, historically designed for use in combat as an extension of Karate.  Kobudo is also practiced for health, physical conditioning and self defense with an emphasis on reflex development, timing, eye-hand coordination, balance and a sense of well being.

Training involves pre-arranged solo and partner forms and the use of various traditional weapons.  Each weapon is designed to challenge the individual to identify and correct weaknesses in their balance, breathing, muscle control, flexibility and focus.  Various weapons also promote flexibility and conditioning of specific muscle groups for developing a stronger body.  Training also develops the ability to use objects as natural extensions of the body.  Therefore, weapons training may be practiced separately or as a perfect complement to empty hand Karate techniques.
