Masters In Motion® is an established organization founded in 1995 that offers the many benefits of classical martial arts practices including health, fitness, self-defense and philosophy. We do this though a governing academy and various training venues including dojos, clubs, virtual media, seminars and workshops.
Masters In Motion® is a people first organization devoted to helping individuals excel in life, to break free from that which binds them, to handle conflict as active peacemakers, and to be aware of their effect on the community around them. We are committed to helping others benefit from our knowledge and experience with professional excellence, friendly staff and exceptional service.
Our award winning dojo provides a physical location for in-person, group, private and semi-private training. It also serves as a community hub that hosts workshops, seminars and social events throughout the year.
The dojo operates in a formal traditional setting with modern technology tools and training equipment. Structured classes provide a supportive environment and offer a mix of classical structure and scientific training methods for maximizing the practitioners potential.
Masters In Motion Academy is an accrediting body founded on three prestigious lineages spanning several centuries that provides education, training and certification in all areas of martial arts for practitioners, teachers and studio owners seeking to elevate their rank and expand their knowledge, curriculum and credibility.
The academy maintains standards and pedigree with a vision to enhance lives by bridging modern culture with the inherent benefits of classical martial arts and its inherent natural health practices. Its higher mission is to preserve the historical lineage connections, evolve its approach to meet modern needs, and to transform the arts into something even better for future relevance.
"Masters", for striving to excellence in everything we pursue. "In Motion", for never being complacent, but always endeavoring to adapt, innovate and progress.
Simple, Efficient & Effective
Self-defense training is primarily based on the core linage arts of Shōrin-ryū Karate, Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu and various other desciplines. Linage is akin to a family tree or royal bloodline and depicts documented transmision from teacher to student who are authorized to teach.
Shōrin-ryū is one of the oldest Okinawan mixed martial arts tracing its roots back to the Shaolin Temple of China. It is not a sport and has historically always included striking, grappling and weapons making it a complete martial art.
Daitō-ryū Aiki-Jūjutsu was historically one of the main Jujitsu arts of Japan used by the Samurai. It emphasizes grappling, joint locks, restraints and sword combat. Aikido, Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo and Hapkido, are all modern day hybrids of this original combat martial art.
Improvise, Adapt & Overcome
Weapons training is primarily based on the core linage arts of Matayoshi Kobudō, Bojutsu, Kenjutsu and various other weapons systems. Kobudō is a Japanese term that can be translated as "old martial way", reminiscent of the feudal times in Japan when weapons were an essential part of any training. Kenjutsu is the art of the sword.
Curriculums cover diverse types of weapons that consist of short, medium and long range weapons for adapting to a variaty of situations and include BO (staff), SAI (short sword), TONFA (batton), KAMA (sickle), NUCHAKU (roped sticks), HANBO (short sticks), TANTO (knife), TIMBE (Sheild) and the KATANA (samurai sword) SANSETSUKAN (3 section staff) and others. Weapons training is a great way to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and improvisational skills.
Life Coaching
The practice of martial arts transcends the execution of self-defense techniques. A true understanding of the martial rts philosophy prepares men, women, and children for life, showing them a path to a healthier life and the most efficient use of physical, mental, and spiritual strength.
Developing mental strength is martial arts; taking care of your body is martial arts; striving to become a better person is martial arts; living in harmony with nature is martial arts.
Masters In Motion® created the KIBUKAN® system in order to preserve and properly disseminate the original philosophy of martial arts. We are available to teach this through private lessons through video conference worldwide.

Everyone is very supportive of each person's personal goals in life and help you reach them. Each and every event is always organized. Everyone there is quick to make newcomers welcomed. I love this place, and I love the people here.”
“...one of my sons who trains at MIM fell down a set of stairs at home. I was scared out of my mind that I couldn't help him as he fell. But amazingly his training kicked in instinctively. He tucked himself into a roll that they practiced many times during the class.”
